ABOUT GREEN AND PROSPEROUS AND THE INTERNSHIP:

Green and Prosperous is a Maryland-based online business and blog that promotes green living and healthier lifestyles through food gardening/homesteading, minimizing your exposure to harmful chemicals, and supporting the work of climate change activist groups, small-scale farmers, and green businesses. Founded and operated by Kelly Pemberton, Ph.D., an environmental activist and professor at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Green & Prosperous offers numerous tips and tools to empower consumers and environmental advocates.

Dr. Pemberton is accepting resumes from graduate and undergraduate students interested in interning with Green and Prosperous remotely. Depending on each student’s interests and skills plus our organizational needs, interns assist with a variety of tasks including research and writing, outreach to and assistance with interviewing of farmers/farmer advocates and environmental groups, website and social media communications, SEO and marketing, photo and video recording and/or editing, and developing promotional campaigns.

The summer internship begins in May and ends in mid-August, with some accommodation for earlier/later start and/or end as needed. During this period, interns must be able to commit a total of 8-10 hours per week consisting of:

1.       A weekly 30-60-minute videoconference meeting with Dr. Pemberton to review work completed and discuss new assignments.

2.       Between 7 and 9.5 hours of independent work completed each week.

This internship is unpaid but offers experience in building and growing an online business in today’s crowded and highly competitive marketplace, a substantive resume-building opportunity, and a formal reference and/or recommendation letter upon request given satisfactory performance. If you need internship credits for your practicum we can provide that as well.

THE INTERNS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Applicants should be interested in business, communications, health, nutrition, agriculture and/or the environment. Applicants should be organized, detail-oriented, motivated and punctual. Demonstrated skill in building an online audience using social media, photo and video editing, and/or writing is a plus.

HOW TO APPLY:

Email Dr. Pemberton at kellyp@greenandprosperous.com with the subject “summer internship.” Attach your resume and writing sample, and please note in your email the times you are available, (except Saturdays) for a phone interview. Dr. Pemberton will contact you to schedule a phone interview if your resume matches what she is looking for. Thank you for your interest!
