Some of the basic household tasks we will generally get done but other places in the home can go months or even years without being cleaned. This infographic from HappyCleans looks at how often you need to get all the different items around the house cleaned. For example, the fan vents are one area of the house that rarely get cleaned. The problem is that if they’re left too long dust, pollen, and other allergens will end up clogging them, and in some cases, can cause particles to be released into your home from supply registers.
If you have ceiling fans, they are another area of the home that can get really dusty and these can be quickly dusted with a pillowcase. Of course, if they’re high up you need to be extremely careful not to injure yourself. Using a duster with a long handle that is made for such hard-to-reach areas is usually the best way to tackle the problem.
Another area of the house that is often left completely uncleaned is the fireplace. It’s good to get into the habit of cleaning the firebox after every use but the entire fireplace needs to be cleaned at least once a year; otherwise, leftover ash will be spread around the house.
The carpets are another area that are often ignored. Of course, most of us will vacuum them on a pretty regular basis but vacuuming isn’t always sufficient. It’s important to steam clean the carpets at least once a year and maybe twice a year if you have pets.
The fridge is another spot that can turn into a mess, so it’s important to clear it out on at least a monthly basis. Research has shown that salad drawers are particularly bad and can contain up to 750 times the safe level of bacteria. Going through the contents and throwing out spoiled or nearly spoiled food on a semi regular basis is important, as many of us will have things stuffed in the back that we never plan on eating.
Have a read through the full infographic now to see what you should clean and how often. It will help you know when to attend to these areas that you have been neglecting for months or possibly years!
